The Final Days of the Kansas City Scouts... in Japan
Today I learned* that at the end of the 1975-76 season, the Kansas City Scouts and the Washington Capitals played an exhibition series in Japan. By far the worst teams in the league, they were chosen because their availability in April--a month when other teams might be in the playoffs--was virtually guaranteed. These would be the final four games for the Scouts, before they packed up and left for Denver to become the Colorado Rockies. And although they lost the series 1-3 to the Caps, they did win the final game of the series and their final game ever by a score of 4-2.

Coronavirus vaccine in transit from Belgium to US
As drugmaker Pfizer seeks regulatory approval for its covid-19 vaccine, shipments have already begun making their way to distribution centers via United Airlines charters, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approved the shipments, which require the vaccine candidate to be packed in dry ice, according to CNN.

"As a result of the historic pace of vaccine development through Operation Warp Speed and careful logistics planning, the FAA today is supporting the first mass air shipment of a vaccine," the agency said in a statement Friday.

The chartered flights, which began Friday, were reportedly between Brussels and Chicago, the WSJ said. They represent one leg of a chain, which will extend from Chicago to distribution hubs around the US.

Joe Biden gains votes in Wisconsin county after Trump-ordered recount
Joe Biden gains votes in Wisconsin county after Trump-ordered recount
A recount in Wisconsin’s largest county demanded by President Donald Trump’s election campaign ended on Friday with the president-elect, Joe Biden, gaining votes, according to a report by The Guardian Saturday.

After the recount in Milwaukee county, Biden made a net gain of 132 votes, out of nearly 460,000 cast. Overall, the Democrat gained 257 votes to Trump’s 125.

Trump’s campaign had demanded recounts in two of Wisconsin’s most populous and Democratic-leaning counties, after he lost Wisconsin to Biden by more than 20,000 votes. The two recounts will cost the Trump campaign $3m. Dane county is expected to finish its recount on Sunday.

Overall, Biden won November’s US presidential election with 306 electoral college votes to Trump’s 232. Biden also leads by more than 6m in the popular vote tally.

After the recount ended, the Milwaukee county clerk, George Christenson, said: “The recount demonstrates what we already know: that elections in Milwaukee county are fair, transparent, accurate and secure.”

Joe Biden asked to bring back fast food menu items
You'd think that there would be more pressing issues given the multiple urgent crises the US and the world are facing currently; climate change, coronavirus pandemic and economic crises...but the internet has spoken. The next leader of the free world should use his newfound power to reinstate beloved items on fast food menus. It all started with Taco Bell...

Top of the list were potatoes, quesarito and shredded chicken at Taco Bell, McDonalds' all day breakfast and Burger King's cheesy tots.

US coronavirus case wake up call
As you can see from this breakdown, the US is now adding a million new official covid-19 infections every week. Back in the spring it took around a month to amass as many new cases.

Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy. Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here.

Next coronavirus surge will be "destabilising" for the US - health expert
CNN - The next coronavirus surge will be “destabilising” for the United States, according to a health expert.

Health experts are predicting a surge in covid-19 cases following Thanksgiving, beyond the record-breaking numbers the US is currently experiencing.

“We're going to be regularly hitting 2,000 deaths per day, but then going up to 3,000 deaths and 4,000 deaths per day,” Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, told CNN on Friday.

“We're talking about numbers that are approaching what we experienced in the 1918 flu pandemic, except it's happening over a much shorter period of time,” he added.

US reports decline in covid-19 hospitalisations for first time in two weeks
CNN - For the first time in more than two weeks, the US reported a slight decline in the number of people being treated in hospitals for coronavirus on Friday, according to the Coronavirus Tracking Project.

It is still not yet clear if the data being reported was disrupted because of the Thanksgiving holiday, the CTP said. Some states and territories did not update their reports on Friday, including Florida and Delaware.

Organisations collecting data on the coronavirus expected to see a dip for Thanksgiving and the three to four days after the holiday, however an increase in reported cases of diagnoses, hospitalisations, and deaths are expected for next week and beyond.

The US surpassed 80,000 daily hospitalisations on November 19 and set new records for 17 days straight until Friday, according to CTP.

Pennsylvania court attacks Trump campaign lawsuit
Another lawsuit from President Trump's legal team fell flat in Pennsylvania after an attempt to dismiss the state's already-confirmed election results was rejected. President-elect Joe Biden was victorious in his hometown state by a margin of over 80,000 votes. The court found that the Trump campaigns accusations of fraud have no merit.

“Free, fair elections are the lifeblood of our democracy,” wrote Judge Stephanos Bibas, a Trump appointee, after returning the verdict. “Charges of unfairness are serious. But calling an election unfair does not make it so. Charges require specific allegations and then proof. We have neither here.”

Trump makes bold coronavirus vaccine claim
After Pfizer and BioNTech recorded positive results for their covid-19 vaccinations, President Donald Trump is eager to get them distributed to Americans. In his Thanksgiving Day address he remained bullish about the prospect of millions of vaccines being administered before Christmas.

The President said: “The vaccines are being delivered, literally it’ll start next week and the week after”.

Stay-at-home order imposed in LA
Los Angeles County has announced tonight that a new stay-home order will be introduced from Monday, as coronavirus cases surge out of control in the nation’s most populous county. On Friday, the county reported 24 new deaths and 4,544 new covid-19 cases. Across the whole US there were over 200,000 new cases, despite many areas not reporting.

A statement from the county health department read: “Residents are advised to stay home as much as possible and always wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when they are outside their household and around others."

Another recount concluded in Wisconsin
A recount in Wisconsin, requested by President Trump's legal team, has made no material difference to the outcome. President-elect Joe Biden's winning margin actually grew slightly.

The Trump campaign had attempted to use the recount to disqualify 238,420 ballots which were cast as absentee ballots in person or by those who count themselves as 'indefinitely confined', allowing them to vote absentee without meeting the state photo ID requirements.

The ballots in question were in Dane and Milwaukee counties, but Trump's legal efforts have so far been unsuccessful. They could still sue and have the case heard in court.

Joe Biden's lead over Trump continues to grow
The all-important matter of the Electoral College votes was settled weeks ago but as the count continues in some states President-elect Joe Biden's winning margin continues to grow in the popular vote. His lead in the popular vote lead climbs to 6.28 million, representing a margin of four percentage points.

This makes no difference to who will be in the White House come 20 January, but does help to show the futility of the President's ongoing legal challenges. After dismissing a lawsuit in Pennsylvania on Friday, the Judge noted: "The number of ballots that it specifically challenges is far smaller than the roughly 81,000-vote margin of victory [in the state]"

2020.11.28 08:56 ChickerNuggy My (M23) best friend and soulmate (F22) realized she's lesbian after doing a bunch of shitty things, and I'm lost.

TLDR; My soulmate kinda cheated on me, and then when we tried to make things work out after moving 1100 miles away from any help, she told me she was lesbian. I lost my mind and my job and don't know what to do.
So, new to posting on reddit, sorry if this isn't correct format for these posts. I'm not here to roast my now-ex lover, and I hope that y'all understand that I can't fit a decade of context into this post. The concentrated version of this story won't show her true side, and will largely be negative, but if I can get one point across, there is a reason this woman is the love of my life.
We started dating in early 2015, after some chances aligned and I ended up as her mom's roommate. We've been best friends since middle school, and have known each other for over a decade, and she's always managed to bring me peace, so I'll call her Dove for this post. Dove and I were high school sweethearts, went to prom together, knew all the same people, and both crushed on each other since we met. When we finally got together, our entire friend group rejoiced and we were the couple everyone wanted to be. For the most part, our relationship has been incredible, until about August of this year. Dove and I were having some issues in the relationship, I was working to save up money for a move we were planning with our best friend (let's call him J.) and work was hard. A few health conditions of mine kicked in, and I got a 3k bill from the hospital after getting some emergency shit done. (Becomes relevant later.) Dove's job sucked her dry as well, and so we were starting to drift apart. I figured it was just stress, but I found out later that Dove had been questioning the relationship for some time at that point, and had begun confiding in a woman she found attractive. (Dove claimed to be bi when we started dating, and we'll call this new woman Castor, seeing as castor oil plants are record holders for their toxicity.) The confiding started innocently at first, with Dove mostly making small complaints about day to day life, but Castor always pushed her. Small things became big things. Minor problems became relationship ending issues. And Castor always incited the worst case option. If I came home from work in a bad mood and I was tired and distant, Castor would posit that I didn't have time to cater to Dove, and wasn't worth her time. This lead to Dove doing some truly awful things. Before we broke up, she talked bad about me, and divulged my personal life to this stranger as grounds for mocking me. They planned on how to best break up with me together, and even at my expense. After we broke up, we continued living together, and tried to figure out if we were still moving together, as had been our couple's goal since we got together. We'd planned a small trip to where we were moving before we actually moved for interviews, looking around, etc. In the roughly 3 month period between us breaking up and moving, Dove lied to me non-stop about her relationship with Castor. She sent them risque pictures in lingerie I had bought her. She gushed to the only friend in our group that didn't like me about how infatuated she was with Castor, and merely ignored this friend calling me a waste of life. She hid herself away from me whenever I tried to talk to her, and I spent the better part of those three months doing my best to show her I could be better. I ignored a lot of what she did, and rather focused on what she told me made her unhappy in the relationship. I bought her chocolate and flowers, and gave her foot rubs, cooked her dinner, etc. By far the worst thing Dove did was borrowed my car and my money for an impromptu trip to Denver. She told me it was some personal time alone, and that she was getting some edibles. It turns out, Castor has a flight the day Dove planned on being in Denver, and while I was at home, trying my best to make Dove happy, she lied to my face about spending the night in Denver with Castor, and admitted that they made out. We didn't officially get back together until she broke down in my car on the way back. I paid for the towing and got her home hours later, after getting a 720 mile ride from J. to pick her up and take her home. The engine was totaled in my car and had to be completely replaced. Partially related later, but this cut into my savings when the only shop available added 1k more onto my bill then they originally estimated for a part they fixed outside of the engine, bringing the whole bill to about 4k. When we got back, Dove broke down. She told me she was sorry for everything she did, and how she kept thinking about me while she was in Denver, and about how she didn't want to lose what we had. So we got back together, and while things were rough, she stopped talking with Castor. We were both taking therapy, did a couple's session even. We ended up moving together, 1100 miles away from where we were, with only ourselves and our best friend J. It was our dream come true, we're living in the city we've been talking about since we were still in school. Things seemed to be heating up even, we were going on wonderful dates to new food shops, loving the weather, being out of the old state. I had her dad's blessing for marriage, her mom wanted to send me her own engagement ring. I had an entire proposal picked out at a rose garden on our anniversary with a top notch restaurant in mind. And then one day I came home, and she was in tears in our room. She had written an entire letter to me, stating she hadn't felt sexual attraction to me in nearly the entire relationship. She said she'd had more time to think about it and realized she was lesbian, and she was fighting herself internally about not being a lesbian because we had such a good relationship. She apologized, and said that it would be a disservice to both of us to continue. My entire life plan was with this woman, we've been together for more than 20% of our lives. I wanted to show her what kind of husband and father I could be. I wanted to watch her achieve every dream of hers, and be proud that I was by her side in every photo she took. I considered myself lucky to wake up next to her, and sleeping next to her was the way I wanted to fall asleep every night. I was struggling so badly that I had a break down at work, and when someone noticed, they told the boss. The boss told me to focus on my mental health before my work, after I admitted the situation was affecting my ability to work. So a day after losing the love of my life, I lose my job. I've been struggling with feeling adequate after everything with Castor happened, and moving took basically the rest of my money. From the hospital bill and the towing/car repairs, our moving fund was already stretched pretty thin. So I can't work until I get some mental help, but I can't afford some mental help until I get some work. To make matters worse, the state shut down, J. has been spending time back home with his relatives for the holidays, and Dove's the only one with a job. So literally the only physical person I can go to for support right now is the person causing me anguish. I don't know what to do, in any capacity. The lack of a relationship is doing a lot of work on my mental health, I struggle to feel like I've done anything good enough, and my wallet and work history seem to agree. I have struggled with suicidal ideation before, and it's getting worse almost every day. I feel like a burden on my friend, for moving with him, and then losing my mind and my job. I have severe anxiety about Dove's feelings towards me. I am cripplingly lonely, horribly depressed, and I still don't have any idea of what steps I should take next. I have no idea how to live without Dove, and I have no idea how to salvage respect and friendship from her after everything that has happened. And the worst part is, I believe Dove is lesbian, which almost makes it worse. I spent 5 years of my life trying to be the perfect man for a woman who wanted a woman, and now I don't know what to do. I genuinely despair that nothing I do will ever be good enough, and that my life is going to just be a chain of incidents that people just echo "things will get better for you," until I finally die. I don't want to lose her as a friend, but after seeing how she treated me, I don't know if I can genuinely forgive her now. I also don't want anything other than her, so I don't know how to move on. The idea of seeing other people sickens me, but I know she will. The idea of trying to love someone else and having this happen again is unbearable. What if I can't get over the fact that unless I start cradle robbing, I'm never again going to have the blessed relationship of being highschool sweethearts, and it ruins my future relationships? How do I go about forgiving her? Should I forgive her? How do I move on from the love of my life crippling my self esteem to the point I can't hardly work? How do I get the help I genuinely need without making it worse by financially crippling myself?
TLDR; My soulmate kinda cheated on me, and then when we tried to make things work out after moving 1100 miles away from any help, she told me she was lesbian. I lost my mind and my job and don't know what to do.

2020.11.28 01:00 Astrobabe5157 Advice on managing long-distance relationship and differing career goals

Background: I (22f) have been dating my boyfriend (28m) for over three years now. We are currently doing a long distance relationship for a year, as he just started his PhD at a school in rural Pennsylvania. I am currently working at a temporary job in Denver, CO.
We love each other to death, but I’m also very scared that life will ultimately take us into different directions.
I told my boyfriend that once I was done working in Denver, I would move back to PA with him until he finished his PhD, which will probably take 4-5 years. In my optimistic mind, I thought I could get some sort of engineering or research job maybe in the area he’s completing his PhD once I move back. But, it’s slowly dawning on me that there might not be anything in his area to help my career prospects. And I’m starting to realize that I have fallen in love with Denver and that there’s much more opportunity for me here.
And hence I have a dilemma, because this is a guy who I love, and who I have shared so much with, and who I fantasized about my future with. But, I’m just so scared that life is going to take us into different directions, and I’m so scared that we’re going to hold each other back because of it. He also wants to have kids soon, and I know that I don’t want kids until at earliest my late-20s.
I’ve just been very stressed about this lately, and it’s been sucking the joy out of everything for me, so I guess I just need an outlet or advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

2020.11.27 21:48 Effotless Reframing the Climate Change Debate

Not all of this text is my own, I stole most of this information and text from https://energytalkingpoints.com/.
If you want to learn more and steal more copypastas I recommend you check out the link and read more about Alex Epstein (he has lots of great work).
The main point missed when arguing for fossil fuels is the fact that it is a tradeoff, my argument will cover three subpoints:
  1. Climate change is real, man made and caused by carbon emissions, but is greatly exaggerated by climate change alarmists who have been making wrong predictions for decades.
  2. Solar and wind are "unreliables" that depend on reliable fossil fuels, nuclear, and hydro infrastructure. They don't replace the cost of fossil fuels, they add to the cost of fossil fuels. More solar+wind = higher prices.
  3. Energy is essential for human development, survival and flourishing. Poverty is the rule and wealth is the exception, most wealth produced today is by machines which requires reliable sources of energy. Billions of people live without clean sources of energy and rely on burning wood or even biomass, the world needs more reliable energy, not less.
Climate change is real, but not a threat:
When you hear scary claims about a “climate crisis,” keep in mind that climate catastrophists have been claiming climate crisis for 40 years. For example, Obama science advisor John Holdren predicted in the 1980s that we’d have up to 1 billion climate deaths today:
“As University of California physicist John Holdren has said, it is possible that carbon-dioxide climate-induced famines could kill as many as a billion people before the year 2020.” -Paul Ehrlich, The Machinery of Nature (1986), p. 27

What we do know about climate change, is that fossil fuels' CO2 emissions have contributed to the warming of the last 170 years, but that warming has been mild and manageable—1 degree Celsius, mostly in the colder parts of the world.
The decadally smoothed data from the UK Met Office HadCRUT4 dataset (column 1 contains the year, column 2 the decadally smoothed temperature anomaly data in °C) shows an increase of 0.974°C between 1850 and 2019.
It also shows a warming of 0.275°C between 1850 and 1945, before atmospheric CO2 concentrations really took off.
Solar and wind are not reliable sources of energy:
Solar and wind are intermittent -unreliable- electricity generators. Depending on the strength of the wind blowing or the intensity of sunshine, they produce either too much or too little electricity for the needs of the electric grid, which needs to be maintained in constant balance between supply and demand for electricity. This problem and related costs escalate with increasing solar and wind on the grid, despite claims that their low marginal and operation cost should make them competitive to coal, gas, and nuclear capacity.
With increasing shares of solar and wind on the grid, Germany’s electricity prices massively increased since 2000, when government support for solar wind was massively expanded. German household electricity prices have more than doubled to over 0.3€ per kWh ($0.35 per kWh depending on currency exchange rate) since 2000 when the modern renewable energy law started to massively incentivize solar and wind capacity on the German grid. BDEW Strompreisanalyse July 2020 p. 7
Analysis of US policies supporting solar and wind by researchers at the University of Chicago shows the same trend in the US:
“The estimates indicate that 7 years after passage of an RPS program, the required renewable share of generation is 1.8 percentage points higher and average retail electricity prices are 1.3 cents per kWh, or 11% higher; the comparable figures for 12 years after adoption are a 4.2 percentage point increase in renewables’ share and a price increase of 2.0 cents per kWh or 17%. These cost estimates significantly exceed the marginal operational costs of renewables and likely reflect costs that renewables impose on the generation system, including those associated with their intermittency, higher transmission costs, and any stranded asset costs assigned to ratepayers.”
Michael Greenstone and Ishan Nath - Do Renewable Portfolio Standards Deliver?
Denmark and Germany, the two most aggressive pursuers of solar and wind electricity in Europe, have the highest household electricity prices in the EU according to Eurostat. To a large degree this is driven by subsidies for solar and wind directly impacting the consumer bills but also less directly observable cost solar and wind create on an electric grid. Because of their intermittency, both technologies require additional infrastructure and permanent backup by conventional capacity.
The serious threat of energy poverty:
Energy is the cornerstone of industrial progress, without which, humanity would be left impoverished as we were for most of human history. The discovery of oil and other fossil fuels has been an incredible achievement for human flourishing and his shifted the burden of manual labor from humans onto machines. A human can burn at most 3,000 calories per day, a gallon of gasoline can be burnt for 31,500 calories and a gallon of diesel for over 35 thousand.
Today however, 10s of millions of Americans live in energy poverty, meaning they experience hardship paying for their basic energy needs. 25 million US households say they've gone without food or medicine to pay for energy. 12 million say they’ve kept their home at an unsafe temperature.
U.S. Energy Information Administration - Residential Energy Consumption Survey, 2015 Table HC11.1
US energy poverty should have decreased since 2008, when the price of natural gas--the fuel that powers most home energy use--started plummeting. But energy poverty is going up because we have added so much wasteful, unreliable solar and wind infrastructure to the grid.
Since the peak in 2008, natural gas prices for electricity production, residential, commercial, and industrial consumers have fallen across the board. U.S. Energy Information Administration - Natural Gas Prices
Natural gas, solar, and wind capacity additions dominate in US grid areas. But despite falling natural gas prices and improving natural gas power plant technology, electricity prices do not fall. U.S. Energy Information Administration, April 21, 2020
The more unreliable energy countries mandate, the worse energy poverty gets. German households have seen their electricity prices double in 20 years thanks to wasteful, unreliable solar and wind infrastructure. Their electricity prices are 3X the US’s too-high prices.
The average US household price in 2018 was $0.1287 per kWh. U.S. Energy Information Administration - Electric Power Annual table 5a
Skyrocketing energy prices from solar and wind mandates don’t just increase energy poverty. They increase all poverty by making every product more expensive, and by making American industry uncompetitive. Does anyone think Americans need higher prices and fewer jobs right now?
The fastest way to decrease energy poverty and overall poverty is to end all favoritism for wasteful, unreliable solar and wind schemes. And above all reject any proposal to outlaw reliable fossil fuels and nuclear in favor of unreliable “renewable” energy.

2020.11.27 20:53 fghfghgfhfghh Ever check out your competition on dating apps?

Here I thought I was maybe in the top 10% of guys on dating apps being in really good shape, full head of hair, perfect teeth, nice clothes, a graduate degree from a top 3 school, and a really good job. Nope. I'm probably not even in the top 50%. Every fucking guy on there is some 6'4" bearded rock climbing doctor with a six pack. It's such a crazy comparison to the women on the same dating apps. No wonder they're so entitled these days. This is in Denver, by the way.

2020.11.27 19:53 bittermctitters Went to microcenter a bit half-cocked, bought quite a few components, wondering if I should exchange any.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7tLs8J
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
Mostly gaming, but also work as well.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
1400-1700
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
As soon as I can
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower, monitor
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Denver. 15 min from MC
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
None
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Not likely
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Nope
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
Able to do both wired and wireless
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No preferences
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Looking to go with the free version of windows (don't mind the watermark)
So here is what I have so far. I price matched a couple things so I got some decent deals I believe. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7tLs8J I also got a hp x27i monitor for 300 that I'm not sure about. Moving forward, I'm looking to get a 3070, a 750w evga power supply, and I'm wondering if I need another fan for cooling. This is my first build as well.
TLDR: Should I keep hp x27i monitor, and are the rest of the components I have alright for this build. PCPP says the B450 motherboard may need an update first? Will that be a problem? I appreciate the help.

2020.11.27 19:23 mckernan599gto First time builder wanting the sim rig I've always dreamt of. No idea where to start.

Borrowing this template from elsewhere. Thought maybe I'd have better luck here.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I want a PC optimized for Microsoft Flight Simulator. I’ve been playing flight sims for 15 years and I’ve never had a computer capable of running them smoothly on max settings with addons so I’d like to finally have that capability. I want to be able to run it on ultra settings in at least 2k resolution with consistently high FPS (60 as a benchmark but I know flight sims are tough on frames). In a perfect world I’d want a consistent 4k 60fps on ultra settings but from what I’ve read, that’s nearly impossible for this game at the moment without some sort of super computer. I also want it to be VR capable later down the road when I decide to buy a headset and maybe 4k capable/upgradable as well. I also play DCS and racing games (assetto corsa, forza, etc.) if that makes a difference. MSFS is definitely the most demanding. Those are just about the only games I play and that will be the primary use of the PC.
MSFS recommended specs can be found here, but these for for the previous gen of graphics cards and processors. I want overkill, not juuuuust enough to run the game on high settings in less intensive areas based on the recommended specs.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
$3000
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
I can start buying parts ASAP, but it looks like I’ll have to wait if I want the new AMD/Nvidia goodies. If there are things like cases, monitors, fans, etc. that I can buy now or maybe score a black Friday deal on, that would be great. I don’t mind waiting for the new graphics cards and CPUs to be in stock though.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower, OS, Monitor, and of course everything that goes inside the tower. I don’t really care for how the tower looks, or any part of the PC for that matter, especially if money can be saved here and put towards more performance-oriented parts.
Monitor is a bit tricky for me. I’m open to suggestions, but ideally, I’d want a 1440p widescreen monitor (30 to 34in-ish) with a 144hz refresh rate… and curved. However, I know those are very expensive, and I don’t want it to eat up my budget. I currently use a Sceptre curved 27" 1080p 75hz monitor connected to my laptop. I like it and it has been a good budget curved monitor, but now I really just want something that is a higher resolution and refresh rate than this one. Size is lower down on the priority list followed by curvature. I think a flat 27in 1440p 120Hz monitor would be the minimum to upgrade to.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
US – Denver, CO. Yes, I have a microcenter close by.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Amazon basics keyboard (it works just fine for what I use it for), Logitech MX Master2S mouse, possibly the monitor mentioned above if I decide to hold off on a new one for a bit. I also have a suite of sim gear: Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Thrustmaster TFRP Rudder Pedals, TrackIR, Fanatec CSR wheels and pedals.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Probably not. I don’t quite understand how this works and I would prefer not to dive into it unless someone wants to explain it and believes that it would significantly improve my flight sim experience.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
-At least 2TB of storage if not more.
-SSD.
-At least 32GB of RAM, 64GB would be nice if the budget allows. I've read that the sim can touch 30 GB in high density areas on max settings. So 32 GB should be more than enough. However, it'd be nice to have some extra for different browsers/programs open while I'm playing.
-A good amount of USB ports (at least 3 or 4). I have a port extender with about 7 usb ports and those are all filled up, so a few extra on the PC would be nice, but it’s not absolutely necessary.
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
I plan on using a wired connection, but I would like Wifi connectivity as well. I have an Xfinity Xfi router with a Gig speed plan.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No preferences. Don't really care what it looks like. The more money that can be spent towards the performance of the PC, the better.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Yes. Windows 10.
Extra info or particulars:
-I want the latest and greatest for the budget. I’m thinking RTX 3080 (I figure a 3090 is too large of a chunk of my budget and not worth the leap in price over the 3080, but heck if you can make it work I could be in), the new AMD Ryzen 9 5950x or 5900x (I’ve read that the AMD processors are generally better, and cheaper, than intel for single core intensive games such as flight sims, but please educate me), and loads of RAM. I’m also open to AMD’s latest offerings in graphics cards but I’m not as familiar with those as I am with the new Nvidia cards. Once again, please educate me if you have other suggestions or if I’m going about this all wrong. This is all very new to me.
-As I mentioned earlier, I don’t want the monitor to suck too much out of my budget if it begins to significantly affect the PC hardware budget (think CPU, GPU). I have a monitor already, so I can wait and buy a nicer one a bit later if I need to.
-I have never built a PC before. Will all the parts you list out just fit together seamlessly? Do I have to put it together a certain way so parts don’t overheat etc.? What are some resources on the internet I can use to make sure I don’t make a very costly mistake putting it all together? I’m a pretty mechanically savvy person, so I’m not THAT clueless, but I just want to be sure I don’t screw anything up. I also have some friends that could probably help put it together.
-I want it to be easily upgradable. Thinking “hey I’ve got some extra cash to splurge on a 3090 to replace the 3080 now”. I want to be able to easily swap out the old with the new. If that’s something that can easily be planned for?
-I am in NO RUSH. I know all the new and shiny Nvidia/AMD offerings are sold out everywhere at the moment. I’m willing to wait. With that being said… 1) am I better off waiting to buy everything at once when production of these things catch up with demand? or 2) Can I just ordering everything now and reserve/preorder the other items that aren’t available at the moment?
Thank you in advance for any and all help. Happy holidays and stay safe :)

2020.11.27 16:26 reeko12c Trucker Driver. Tested Positive for COVID

In a strange turn of events, I am relieved I tested positive for Covid. And many of you will probably hate me by the end of this post.
This whole year has been one roller coaster after another. From being homeless to losing contact with most of my friends, to coming close to losing a job, to starting a business in January, to working out of state. 2020 has been one stressful year, I cannot emphasize enough how hard it's been. The worst part, I don't have much support, so I been struggling alone without help. Trucking ain't easy.
I'm fit and I eat incredibly healthy (28 years old). I take about 30-40 capsules every day (for the past 4 years) of vitamins, minerals, herbs, enzymes, probiotics, oils, amino acids, etc. I rarely get sick. Most people think I'm insane when I tell them what I do to be healthy. I cook most of my food because when I'm driving, it's nearly impossible to find grass-fed food with a large plate of veggies with bulletproof coffee.
I traveled 42 states and I successfully dodged covid this whole year, until this last week.
DAY 1: Woke up extremely tired in my semi-truck and my body was aching. Didn't think much of it. Brewed strong coffee. I should have slept in but I had to get home because I had an appointment with the DOT and highway patrol back home in California. BIT Inspection that I postponed for months. I wasn't that far, but far enough that I couldn't take the day off. I woke up in Winslow, Arizona and I had to drive to San Bernardino CA.
Four hours into my day, I can feel the entire semi-truck pulling left and right. I assumed it was wind, so I kept driving. I still managed to keep the truck relatively straight, in its lane, for about 15 mins until I realized I had a severe case of vertigo, dizziness that was getting worse every minute. It wasn't the wind that pulled the truck left and right, it was me who couldn't hold the steering wheel.
I pulled out the next exit and tried walking it off. I tried running laps around my truck. No luck. I was exhausted, my body was aching and now I had a burning sensation. I had all the symptoms of a fever but I didn't want to rule out COVID. So I took mega doses of supplements in a gamble to inhibit IL-6 and a possible cytokine storm. So I set my alarm for two hours and quickly fell asleep. 2 hours quickly turned 4.
I lost 4 hours of my 14-hour clock for falling asleep on the job. I drove 4 hours. So now I got 6 hours to get home without stopping before I'm forced to park the truck for another 10 hours. I had to get home and I drove extremely tired. Fortunately, I wasn't dizzy because the nap really helped. I had no appetite, not even for coffee. Mind you, I'm 18 hours without food if we don't count the bulletproof coffee.
I barely made it home and went straight to bed. Didn't shower, didn't eat. Phone was put on airplane mode.

Day 2: Woke up feeling much better. Body aches but I could still function enough to prepare paperwork obligations and do truck maintenance. No appetite. I forgot to eat. Im nearly two days without food. So I forced a couple of raw eggs and veggies blended with bone broth, butter, apple cider vinegar. Tasted like water. opps. That's when I realized, I couldn't smell either. Chewed ginger and garlic. Tasted nothing. At this point, I really wanted to get tested for covid but the officer is on his way.
Not happy, I postponed our appointment 4 times, DOT officer calls to tell me he's on his way. I'm still tired with body aches, and now I have episodes of confusion and slurred speech. I tried convincing the officer not to come, but he insisted it was no big deal so long as we kept our distance.
DOT officer gets here and I don't really show symptoms of covid besides tiredness and confusion. He doesn't believe I'm that sick but he still wanted to keep his distance and wear masks. Fair enough. I don't blame him. And honestly, I felt much much better.
Slightly off topic. Sorry for long post.
So he begins to check my elogs on my tablet. After two hours of checking my routes and me patiently waiting in my driveway yelling back and forth on how to work the tablet, he finds violation after violation, mostly because I moved the truck when I wasn't supposed to back in May-July. --So this was the reason they wanted to do an inspection, they kept stopping me at the weigh station. In 4 months I got 3 citations after being pulled over 6 six times. I drive an older truck, so they constantly pull me over for random inspections. (his words, not mine, I drive a 2007 Freightliner Columbia that I'm being forced to retire)
(Now if you think I'm some outlaw, settle down. I'm an essential worker, not a criminal. Please realize that everything around you at some point touched a semi-truck. People like me deliver your goods across the country, even in the middle of a pandemic.)
Of course, the officer is incredibly frustrated because he knows whats coming next. lmao
May-July, I was exempt from HOS rules because I was delivering essential goods. I could legally drive with complete disregard to the hours-of-service. Those days I was working 16 hours shifts and the tablet kept logging violations for going over 14 hours. The catch, I had to prove I had was delivering essential goods. That meant going through hours of paperwork, bols, permits, and calls to dispatch, warehouses, brokers, shippers, receivers, etc. Its hours of mind-numbing work to clear my name. The officer only has 8 hours. By the end of the day, I got off with minor infractions, truck headlights were too bright, mudflap was wearing down, tablet cant mounted with velcro, no off-duty driving hooked with trailer. No biggie. I could keep my business running for 90 days if I buy a new truck. 2007 trucks do not meet CARB regulations. Yay.
Day 3 Slept in, woked up relieved, and hungry! Cooked me a nice meal and ate like a pig even though I couldn't taste anything. Went to get tested.

Day 4 and 5. Everything was fine. No fever, no nothing. I begin to taste the food again, but I cant smell anything. Results came back and I officially tested positive for covid. I took the rest of the week off.
It's been a week and I'm fine for the most part. I still can't smell anything. At this point, I'm not scared of the virus anymore. Im sort of relieved. The funny thing is, when I told several of my friends what happened, suddenly everyone has had the virus. They just never bothered telling me until I got it myself. The frustrating part is one of them made plans with me knowing they had covid. wtf. I canceled all my Thanksgiving plans, Christmas, New Years, Birthdays. That's it I'm done. I mean it this time.
Besides, I have to retire my semi-truck by January 2021. CARB Regulations in California means I can't drive in California starting January. They're basically forcing me to sell my truck despite passing all my inspections. I couldn't get exempt in the middle of a pandemic but knew these when I bought the truck. So my fault for being poor. I can only work in December and I have to finance debt for a new truck. I went from $800 in savings, late on truck payments, homeless in March to $40,000 in savings by November. My accountant is telling me I'm going to owe $14,768 in taxes, possibly more if I work in December. Oh, and I have to pay for insurance. So really, I have $23,000 to buy a new $70,000 truck. What savings. I'm short -$47,000.
Fortunately, I can drive anywhere else but California. So that means I'm moving out of Cali again. I'm currently making arrangements to store all my stuff in a storage unit again in San Bernardino. This is a pain, but I got no other option. 4 months living out on the road should be enough time. I could sell my truck and finance a new one, lord knows where.
It all depends on how this next lockdown goes. I'm preparing for the worst. Last time, the lockdowns in April killed most freight, many warehouses, businesses were closed. Freight wasn't getting moved. Truckers went spoiling for low pay, underbid until they went out of business. It's how I bought my truck cheap this year. I can't risk buying a whole new truck with a lockdown looming around the corner. I won't have money and work is hot.
Pay has skyrocketed this past 3 months. I have seen never pay so high. I'm talking gross $4500 LA to Denver. In March, I took loads for $1900 same route out of desperation, which was barely minimum wage after expenses. So $4500, that's more than double in pay, and I'm grateful worked picked up. These last 3 months saved my ass.
But this is only temporary. Many warehouses and distribution centers are stocking up while they still can. The covid death rate only gets worse and it's barely the beginning of a dark winter. Lockdowns are coming, which means pay is about to take a dump.So you see, I have no incentive to quarantine. I have to work while I still can. I'm not renewing the lease on my house. I'm bumming it, homeless again. I'm not big business. I don't get bailed out and I get treated like some criminal scum who is stupid. I'm about to lose my home, forced out of my hometown, I'm about to lose my means of work, and I'll have nowhere to quarantine besides my truck. I get treated like dirt on the streets everywhere. With no one to vent, hasn't been good for my mental health. Having suicidal thoughts on the highway is not fun.
I grew apart from my friends, many my age cant relate to truckers. The spark is gone. Many of them are got married and had kids and I cant relate to such life and they cant relate to mine. I haven't even had sex or dated in a whole year. I cant salvage my old friend circle despite my best efforts to compromise. I have no grounds for support.
At best, I'll just get a lousy $1200 stimulus check that ill wipe my ass with. When society gives a fuck about me, maybe ill give a fuck a little bit more. Until then, I go back on road, covid or not, I'm not locking down until the bitter end. I mean what options do I have? I hope you understand.

2020.11.27 05:30 i_pirate_sue_me I made a list of all the plot holes and inconsistencies ( only s1 and 2)

First of all no hate on the show , i made this post just cuz i didn't have anything significant to do at the moment. Initially I was going to do a post about how this show pretends to be smart or tricks you into thinking that , however considering its release date I suppose someone must have already done something like that . I didn't include season 3 and 4 as i had learned to watch it with my brain shut by then.Anyways ENJOY!!!!and debunk what you can .
why would the robbers take their masks off in a friggin robbery
professor was allowed in the tent where the most classified investigation in the country was taking place, well things don't work that way, then the police wonders who the mole is
professor going to scrapyard himself was the peak of naivety , why not just send his men that helped tokyo escape , even if the identity of robbers were exposed what's the worst that could have happened , would it have been worth risking his own life
The russian guy is allowed to hear all the conversations inside the tent for some reason
professor threatens him, he deletes the sketch from the software and the police doesn't try once to persuade him to put together the sketch again(very considerate officers)
one of the officers saw the face the russian guy put together but still doesn't say a thing for some reason
the first group of hostages that escaped could have used the same software to identify the robbers that the russian guy uses, but for some reason they don't
professor's plan heavily depends on raquel but its impossible that 5 years ahead of the heist he knew raquel would be incharge of the negotiations and he would have have absolutely no difficulty making her acquaintance
professor wanted to kill raquel's mother and somehow he new exactly where she lived
the police were regularly checking the frequency waves inside the bank and the tent but somehow the mic on angel's glasses slipped right through them
professor clearly wore gloves before entering the police car but still somehow managed to get his fingerprints on it
for Denver the roof is the best place to tell moscow about Monica, well cuz the plot required Arturo to hear em
why didn't they started digging the tunnel from professor's side sooner
you think that professor would have hard time getting inside the hospital cuz its under heavy surveillance and ensure if it was a trap , well its super easy barely an inconvenience
he was the only clown to enter and leave the building for god's sake (freaking blind police) and again why didn't professor just send his men
raquel's mom knew that someone close to raquel is the imposter still she decided to call "someone close to raquel" and tell him that instead of waiting for raquel a bit more ,how smart of her
they knew that the hostages would tell the police about the original tunnel still they didn't even put explosives or arrange any kind of hinderance for the police
professor forming relation with raquel while he shouldn't even be in public or atleast close to anyone from police is the dumbest shit ever. he wanted to get laid more than he want the robbery to succeed.
the unnecessary sublot of "getting public's support" which had absolutely no impact on the story whatsoever and had no meaning behind it
raquel was a mentally trained officer who had a strong sense of justice but gets easily manipulated by a guy she met like a week ago who took advantage of her cuz apparently bank bad professor good
now she is ready to sacrifice even her beloved daughter and mother from him lmao

angel wouldn't tell police the hideout of professor who indirectly ruined his life , cuz well Raquel said she dont know whats good and bad anymore (say no more to a simp)
tokyo one of the most wanted fugitive in entire Spain is being traveled by the police with the minimum security possible, cuz the plot required her to escape
tokyo enters the bank on a freaking motorcycle while the place being heavily armed with guns , what is this star wars
the gang somehow escapes at the end without any inconvenience in a giant black suspicious van ,the police knew about the hanger however still didn't secure the perimeter around it for some reason .
professor is a master manipulator who speaks about orgasms and what not to a "female officer" with confidence of an eagle but pisses his pants around tokyo and nairobi
how did the professor even find the gang members in the first place which even the police had hard time finding
ok about offering hostages the 1 million euros , why would they believe a robber in the first place and did they even get that money
prof's motivation for the robbery is absolutely shallow . Its very unrealistic that he would execute a robbery this big with his utterly flawed plan just to pay his father homage.I mean he looks quite wealthy throughout the entire show right?

2020.11.26 20:55 mckernan599gto Clueless first time builder looking to create the ultimate sim rig

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I posted this yesterday morning but I didn't get any responses :(
I want a PC optimized for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

2020.11.26 04:39 haraido I think I just need to talk about it...

So we met on tinder I didnt really know what to think of it since I've only been in one relationship and that was a toxic one. About a year and a half later I decided I'd explore the dating scene. I was on tinder and found a couple of people but we didn't hit it off like I did with him. We matched around Christmas and decided to go out on the 27th/28th (I cant remember the exact time). The first thing he said to me was "beautiful" and told me how pretty I was...Before all that we talked until like 3 or 4am on snap just joking. He seemed to be all over me which was weird to me since I hadn't really known what it was like to like the person you were dating. He immediately called me his girl and sent pictures of me eating tacos to his friends. We spent his last week just going to see different places to spend time together. He was in the army btw stationed in Colorado. On the last day he was here we had sex which was unexpected. Im not really a spontaneous person, but I wanted to take a chance. We talked and talked after he went back and decided to meet again in February this year.
We had a great time in Denver. I mad him mad however...I was joking and I would snatched my hand away which was funny at first but he took it seriously towards the end of the day. We went to meet his friends and he didn't introduce me cause he thought I was mad at him...so that didn't sit with me too well. I also felt sour about a girl texting him on snap saying she wanted him to fall in love with her. So I turned away from him that night and we didn't really say anything.
When I was going home the last day. He drove me to the airport and kissed and held my hand on the way. And little did I know the kiss he gave me before I went inside the airport would be the last one...
Then covid hit and we couldn't see each other. It was all pretty normal we didn't have our little spats but it was normal and we just got over it. And flwithin the 10 months we were together he told me he loved me, wanted me to move to Florida when he got out the army, and said he wanted to be together all the time. He was very cute and affectionate which I loved. But in October he told me we needed to "talk about something". I asked him what was wrong and he didn't reply. Until the next day and said he didn't want to be too blunt about it but it was all he could think about. I asked him to just flat out tell me he didn't want to be together but he didn't. I sent him one last text saying sorry I was so mean or toxic towards him. He told me he wasn't mad about anything but he needed time for himself now.
I still don't know what to think or how to feel but upset and confused. I just felt like everything was a lie. I really thought I was in love and we'd get married. We joked about that sometimes. But I feel lost and felt like I just needed write it out or get some kind of answer. Thanks for reading if you got this far.

2020.11.26 03:48 Pristine-Engine4388 I AM A NEW RANGER HERE AT WOLF LAKE NATIONAL PARK, SOMETHING SINISTER IS GOING ON. Episode 1, Part 1/2

My name is James Parker. I am a new recruit here at The U.S. National Park Service. Since working here, I have learned the woods are a dangerous place.
Bears, Wolves, Mountain lions are the normal threats any visitors would consider. But there are other entities that roam the dark forest. They are responsible for a lot of grizzly and unsolved disappearances throughout the national parks in the U.S.
I have recently encountered one of the entities myself but I've also heard horrific stories of encounters with other malevolent forces that hunt in national parks, by the rangers from those other locations.

Please if you plan to enter the woods, then you really need to hear this. It could honestly save your life as we, the rangers, have noticed the steps to follow to make sure you don't end up like the 100s of people who fall prey every year when visiting the woods.
Let's begin from the very start.
I believe and always believed that The woods are a beautiful thing. As soon as you cross the tree line, you are one with nature, walking through a sea of interwinding green flowing through a labyrinth of towering great oaks.
It’s a vast kingdom of wild animals and scenic awes that honestly takes your breath away every time you enter its realm.
Lets get something straight, though. It has an extremely dark side. A side that no one fully understands.
Not even us, the U.S. National Park Rangers.
We actually have a special department that handles these ‘dark’ sides to our work place. They are called Hazard Control.
We never see them when a ‘regular’ hazard occurs such as bear attacks or a camper falls down a cliff side.
But you bet your bottom dollar, that when a child goes missing with no trace, or an entire family is found dead under suspicious circumstances, then they certainly send a representative down to the park. Mainly to act as a middle man between us and the police, usually.
We all here at the Wolf Lake Rangers Station know HQ are covering something up. We don't know what exactly. But whatever it is, they are determined to defend the secret. No matter what.
You see, I got this job because my predecessor was apparently a little too curious for his own good. Now, his supervisor had repeatedly warned him to keep his head down and mouth shut apparently but he didn't.
And now, he has been missing for the last 6 months. Hazard Controls official statement to us was that he left for Virginia but we all know that this is a lie. No one as heard from him since. We know something has happened to him and We are, to this day, trying to find out what happened.
Before moving to Wolf Lake, I knew the woods could be a fucked-up place. You know it’s such a potentially dangerous place and ya know, you see those scary stories on Youtube about missing people and bizarre crime scenes but to be honest I always just assumed that it was just the combination of tragedy and paranoia.
Bad things happen. People get hurt. You know how it is, It’s just a part of life, unfortunately.
A lot of people who go missing, go missing within minutes of last being seen. When days pass and they don’t turn up alive and well and the answers aren’t obvious or clear, then we do the human thing and our imagination starts to fill in the blanks for us. Before you know it, we picture some big foot creature dragging them into a cave after they wandered off the trail.
when in actual fact they just fell down some narrow gorge in the hillside, broke a bone or 2, got stranded, died from starvation and they decompose in the forest's undergrowth.
Never to be found until years later then the horrible mystery and urban legend that was being told doesn't seem so horrific now. It was just a standard tragedy, as grim as that sounds.
But let me tell you, I have seen some things over the past 5 months that, honestly, makes me genuinely exhale with relief when we find a body with, hmm shall we say, more straight forward circumstances?
being almost ‘happy’ or released to find a body with teeth marks that obviously belong to a bear or some other common woodland predator. I know that sounds bad but it’s just like finding a skeleton with a broken leg at the bottom of a ditch. All normal hazards that people like me can expect to encounter, if spending a long time in these woods.
But these other ‘scenarios’ I’m talking about , and Entities that I have being forced to encounter here, during my short time as a Forest Ranger at this national park, really do keep me awake at night.
As I mentioned, it's human nature to catastrophize things in our imagination. It’s what we do. Well It’s certainly what I do anyway.
Partner goes out and her phone wont ring for hours? Obviously, it’s not an innocent ‘my battery died’, it’s ‘she's met another guy and she is with him right now’. Its just kind of what I do. It’s hindered me in the past. I don’t have many friends or romantic connections.
And, that is what I tried to convince myself of, for the first month or so of my employment. That I was just being over dramatic and analytical.
However, after working here for nearly half a year now , I know now there are things in the woods. Things that are dark and sinister. Things that roam the trees with malign intentions. Things that not even my imagination could do justice.
I have no idea what these ‘things’ are. Not exactly anyway. I have only ever encounter one and It was for a very brief second. I don't really know what I saw but whatever it was, looked absolutely despicable, wrong, the type of vibe you get when you look at a Huntsman spider. Something that just signals to all the transmitters in your brain, telling you to get as far away from this thing as you can.
I’m here to talk about it though. Thanks to my training from Phil, that's my supervisor, I knew what to do to keep alive.
Unfortunately thought, not a lot of other people do. So while I know every day hundreds of people come through these woods and have wonderful experiences making memories with friends and family to last a lifetime, I knoe every once in while there will be someone who catches the attention of these baleful entities when they are roaming the forest to hunt. If they don’t know what to do, they don’t stand a chance.
Why don’t we just tell park visitors??
We cant tell any of the campers. Hazard Control forbid any discussion of such events. And I am not about to end up like little Billy, talk too much and find myself missing.
But at the same time, the guilt does bother me so I am not going to stand by and watch people be lambs to the slaughter anymore.
Please read this story. It will give you a good idea of what us Rangers deal with out here trying to keep people safe. It will also be a key to help you survive should you ever come out here.
I am going to tell about my first few months here and what I have witnessed. I will also speak about the training retreat in Alaska that I have recently attended with Phil. There we met other Rangers and we swapped stories about the horrific entities in each of our parks. We were honestly shocked to learn it wasn’t just Wolf Lake who had a Hazard Control presence.
Believe me when I say I don't know who's tale was worse so I will let each of you decide for yourselves.
Here is my story
I started my career here at the national park station and was assigned to Wolf Lake National Park on a 3 month performance review basis.
I saw the job advert online and I noticed that the pay was a little over the top for what I expected for this sort of position. I didn’t think anything of it at the time. I had very little experience with personal outdoorsmanship but I included on my C.V. that I was a hard worker and a fast learner, hoping that would be enough.
I included in my covering letter than I didn’t have a lot of friends or family, so I was introverted so being out in the woods alone would be suit me well. I also told them I would be willing to relocate to Wolf Lake.
I won’t bore you with too much of my move out here but long story short, I was given the job. Almost immediately in retrospect. Before my start date I attended one face to face interview with a woman from HR, at an office situation 12 miles from Wolf Lake, who said that they were looking for a replacement Ranger after one of their veterans just upped at left. Without a word.
I didn’t think much of it back then as It's probably fair to assume that people do leave jobs when they get to a certain age. It’s just part of life.
However I did notice that at one point in the conversation, she seemed to slip up and said something to the effect of ‘Great! everything is all sorted then ! I will let Mark know right away we've hired you, He is the head Ranger know. He will be very pleased to know that we finally have a replacement for them.’
‘Them?’ I asked. She looked at me, a little surprised, very skittish. Like when you surprise a cat in the night.
‘Pardon? she mustered.

I gently chuckled, slightly scoffing and confronted her. 'You said 'Them', 'a replacement for them', has someone else left?' There was no way I was letting that slide.

'Oh...Sorry I thought I said HIM, I'm sure I did, didn’t I? Gosh, It's been a long day. you know how it is?’ You could genuinely see her cursing at herself in her own head.

‘No Sorry it's probably just me, I- I must of mis-heard you. That's all’ I lied, whilst smiling at her warmly.

I knew exactly what she had said. Who else who worked in these woods had left their post? And why didn’t she mention them? Why did she seem so skittish?

I know now why she was so spooked but at the time, I just moved past it and forgot all about it as she slid over the paperwork and explained the pay structure to me. The basic pay was exactly what I thought it would be. Standard 35k per year. What made the annual salary so big overall was a bonus what was marked as ‘Hazard Pay’. Upwards of £7,000 a month on top of my pay.

Stupid young me didn’t question it though. I just signed my life away and before I knew it, I was being given the keys to a cabin located just around 1 mile into Wolf Lake National Park. I was told to meet a man called Phil tomorrow at noon at his look out tower. Phil was apparently a long standing veteran of the National Park service. He would be my mentor for the next few months.

As soon as I left my office, I made my way to the park, to find my cabin that I had been assigned to.

I arrived at the park around 8pm. My taxi driver was kind enough to drive me around half a mile into the park, to roundabout the parks Visitors centre, just before you get to the first trail that leads into the treeline.

I hiked the rest of the way, following the directions the ranger in the visitors centre gave me. Didn't take me long to get there and at around 9pm, I was unlocking the front door of my woodland accommodation, walking inside and flipping on the main light switch. I took a minute to scan the room. Very cozy.

The kitchen and living room combined into one area large area. There was a door across the room that lead into my bedroom with an En Suite included. I was one happy camper, no pun intended.

I put my bags on my bed while I checked my cupboards to find they had been loaded up with plenty of tinned food and pasta. Steaks and other frozen meat were also in the freezer. Not bad.

I was exhausted from all the travelling I had done to get from my old house to Wolf Lake, then the 3 mile hike to my cabin from the visitor centre finished me off. I also had an early start so I didn't waste any time trying to wind down for the night.

Unfortunetly this first night, my anxiety took over and I laid awake with a pit of nerves in my stomach as I thought about my first day. I couldn’t sleep. As I mentioned, I am pretty introverted, a loner so to speak, and I have had a history in the past of not making great first impressions with Co Workers so over time I have developed an issue when it comes to meeting new people. It makes me desperate for a good impression and that sometimes makes me a little awkward, thinking too much into how I speak and act. This looked a dream job with great pay and a home included. I really didn't wanna screw it up.

I found myself pacing around my cabin, rehearsing potential conversations I may have with me and this 'Phil', that I will be working with for the next 3 months. After wearing out the floorboards, I decided I need to occupy my mind so I picked up a random newspaper from the huge pile of old tabloids and magazines left behind from the previous residents. I always loved to test my mind and validate my knowledge by doing online quiz's or crosswords, sudokus, stuff like that. So I decided a word search or crossword would really help take my mind off things, ease my nerves and help me get some sleep.

The newspaper I selected was around 10th down in the large stack of 50 plus tabloids. It was dated February 4th 2004. The front cover was about the New England Patriots 32-29 victory over the Carolina Panthers at SuperBowl 38. As I flicked over the pages to get to the quiz pages, Something else caught my eye. A headline. 'BOY STILL MISSING. AUTHORITIES BAFFLED'

It's human nature that the horrifying headlines we come across are the ones that get you to read on. We will all admit I think, that we have a curiosity when it comes to the dark side of life, so I read on. Within the first 2 sentences, I had felt my heart rate begin to increase as I read where the boy had gone missing. It was in a national park. THIS national park.

If the story didn't have my full attention before, it certainly did now. I read on some more. The young boy had disappeared from Wolf Lake in very suspicious circumstances and had been missing for 6 weeks. I noted the date of the incident and quickly scanned the remaining newspapers for a date that matched the time sorrounding the disappearence. I managed to find one. 'CHILD VANISHES FROM NATIONAL PARK. SEARCH TEAM DEPLOYED'

I gulped and braced myself, pulling out a small silver whiskey flask from my duffel bag, that my father had bought me for my 18th birthday 10 years ago. He always used to keep his flask close by specific occasions such as to calm his nerves after a minor car accident or to 'cope with my mum when she went bat-shit' as he used to put it. He was the last living member of my immediate family after my brother committed suicide at 17 and my mother died of lukemia at 58. He passed after a heart attack 3 weeks before I applied for this position. a lot of people will say I am running from my grief. Hell! maybe I am? But I had nothing to stay for back in Atlanta and I just think coming out to the huge beautiful forests in the vast back country, submerged in a 400 mile radius of nature would no doubt make my problems seem much smaller than they were.

I smiled to myself as the flask and the image of my father giving it to me triggered more fond memories I had of my family that we shared before their deaths. It was only a few seconds before, the grin washed from my face, as the memory of what I was looking at in the newpaper flowed back into my concious mind. I looked down at the story again. I read it out in my head.

The details of the story were that on December 17th 2003, The Waldren family took a trip to Denver, Colorado to spend christmas with relatives. On the 20th, They took a trip to 34 miles to Wolf Lake National Park. They had planned a 3 day trip. 1 day Hike in, 1 day camp, 1 day return hike out. Reportedly, the first day had gone fine but the day at the camp site had been strange according to some of the witness statements. Well, I should say more the night had been strange as apparently Danny, the kid who went missing, had complained multiple times to his group that he'd seen a man in the woods. A man who he described as 'the whispering man'.

The mother, Jennifer Waldren, had told authorities that her son had come into their tent in the middle of the night crying explaining that a man was standing at the tree line, signalling him to come into the trees, and when he shouted for him to 'go away' the man had signalled for him to be quiet by placing his finger on his lips. Danny also claimed to his mother than the man was whispering he had candy, trying to lure Danny into the woods.

The parents believed their son was having a nightmare, which in fairness to them, he was prone to. Never the less, his father (Derek) and his uncles (Barry and Steve) roamed the perimeter of the site to make double sure that a sexual predator wasn't stalking their kids but mainly it was a way of calming down, Danny. Danny seemed to relax when the search of the area yielded no sign or evidence anyone was there.

However on the third day, the group started to trek back to the location of the cars. Around 3 pm, they were hiking past a river along a more scenic yet less used trail. They were around 23 mile away from their destination and had been walking for over 3 hours, covering 12 miles. Danny had lagged behind as the group rounded a corner. When they noticed he hadn't followed them around the bend and he was no longer in eyesight, they went back to get him and discovered that he had completely vanished.

They assumed he had fallen in the river that ran along side the trail and immediately called in the Rangers.
The part of the trail that the family were hiking on at the time was around 4 metres wide, and sat roughly mid way up the large banking, before the banking steeply increased upwards around 10 feet to a clearing. Sat on the hill top, was a grassy area of around 300 metres, acting as a doorstep to the tree line of a large section of forest.
The family assumed the banking up to the forest area was far too high for their child to climb so the most plausible explanation was that he slipped down the banking, and into water.
The Rangers closed off the river at a nearby bottleneck point, so if Danny did fall in the water, he wouldn't be dragged too far down stream but unfortunetly, a search of the water found no sighting of the missing boy.
The search team, when taking statements from the family, found it very strange that according to anyone in the group, he didn't call for help. He didn't shout for his parents or make any sound in general, such as a splash in the water. So the Police and Rangers called in the sniffer dogs. They also called in cadaver dogs, much to the dismay of the family.

The dogs were given items belonging to Danny such as spare clothing and something very strange occured, they followed his scent UP the hill side and into the woods. Not DOWN the banking, and in to the river.
Analysis of the scene showed there were no hand or foot marks imprinted in the dirt banking to evidence if Danny had pulled himself up the hillside. It was as if he had just floated up the hill, or was lifted up in a crane.

Another strange finding was the fact that the sniffer dogs tracked Dannys scent to a location 34 miles into the forest, from the location he was last seen.
This made absolutely no sense given the family stated Danny was a slow walker, hence him lagging behind. But even with that in mind, a 6 year old boy would never have been able to travel over 30 mile, in just over 90 minutes, on foot. Not possible.

They tracked Dannys scent to a clearing in the woods. At this point, the sniffer dogs reportably laid down and started whining. These were two highly trained and seasoned sniffer dogs and the handlers from the canine dog unit found this extremely bizarre and out of the ordinary.

My imagination couldn't help build my interpretation of 'the whispering man' who Danny claimed he'd seen. A horrific abomination of evil trying to lure innocent youths, from the warm safety of their family's camp and into the dark forest for god only knows what reason. I shuddered as my thoughts pictured the whispering man snatching Danny by the collar of his shirt as he walked on the trail and violently dragged up over the hill and into the woods before he had chance to scream for help.

I closed the newspaper. I finished the flask. I needed it. I wanted these images out of my head. I cursed myself. My mother had always been a hard ass when it came to me playing violent video games or watching scary movies. I just assumed she was trying to ruin my childhood but I learnt a few years into my teens I just had an over active imagination. I'm not a 'scaredy cat', I just have the sort of imagination that can run away with itself and sometimes It can be hard to get images out of my head. Danny and 'The Whispering Man' would not leave the front of my mind.

I tried to break my train of thought and I started to lay out my clothes for tomorrow and tried to watch some tv in bed. The Cabin had wifi so I plugged in my firestick and watched Netflix's Making A Murderer, as I needed something else to occupy my mind. As I laid there, my mind eased and I felt myself drift off to the sound of the T.V. in the background.

Danny Waldren walked along the dirt path, nursing his aching legs with both hands as he watched his family turn the corner before him.

He heard a whisper. 'Danny boy...'. He looked around.

'Come and play with me, Danny boy...'

Dannys skin began to crawl and the hairs on his neck and arms stood erect.

'There is candy... all sorts of wonderful treats...' the whispers continued.

Danny put the pain in his shins and thighs to the back of his mind and hurried to turn the bend of the trail and catch up to the safety of his parents company.

'Danny...Where you going?' The voice hissed.

Danny turned the corner with haste, sighing with relief but to his horror, his parents were gone. He found he was no longer on the trail that ran along side the beautiful flowing river and his parents were not stood in a huddle with a smile waiting for him to re join their group.

He instead was 100 yards from the dense forrest. He looked forward towards the tree line. He could just make out a shape in the trees, staring at him. It was Humanoid, Tall, Thin, Male.

The figure took a small step forward towards the edge of the woods. Danny could see it's face now. It was smiling. The smile so painfully wide, the eyes wild, huge and pupils so very dilated.

Danny screamed for his mum, he screamed so loud.

The figure raised its arm. The arm like a tentacle. With the hand having obscenely long fingers.

The fingers with sharp, over grown nails.
The hand came up to it's face and the figure placed the side of it's right index finger on its lips. It's sinister smile has gone now and with one sharp 'SHH', Danny's screams and cry's are muted. He can't make a sound.

He darts his vision around in his panic and sees his family, on the path below. They are looking for him.

He turns and screams for them to help. He tries to scream 'I'm up here!' but it's too late now because Danny looks down at his stomach and sees the long sharp fingers of the figure, silently slither around his torso.

He turns to see the darkness of the forest, penetrated only by the long outstretched arm of the figure, standing in the trees. The whites of the figures wild eyes are unbelievably visible in the darkness. They are wide open. painfully expanded in a wild outcry of excitement. Danny is terrified. He feels the urine escape him and spill down his thigh.

Danny screamed so loud for his mummy, that he could feel the blood cells in his head, quake to bursting point. However, no sound omitted from him, no matter how hard he tried.

The hand snapped close and clamped down on his body, hard. It's arm snatched back before Danny could even get one last look at his mum and dad.

Before he knew what was happening, he was being dragged into the woods. He was moving across the hard dirt and in to the trees at a pace he couldn't believe. He seemed to be pulled along the unforgiving ground for such a long time. He managed to sit up as he was moving. He looked up and he could see the figure, in the distance, stood in a clearing. He was getting very close.

Dan's eyes widened. With every yard between him and the figure dwindling, he was all the while getting a better picture of the presence dragging him towards the clearing.

He was appalled right down to his soul by what he saw. The figure was dark, almost completely black. The only other colour on its form was white. The colour of its wild eyes and painfully stretched smile that bored its huge clenched teeth.

The form didn't move a muscle. It almost looked like a pastel drawing, stood still in the middle of the woods. So unnatural and completely out of place in this world. It's pupils were completely fixed upon its prey, that was rapidly approaching.

Danny screamed, sound came flying out along with the birds and wildlife in the nearby trees.

As he was 10 feet from the figure, Danny closed his eyes in terror.

9 feet , 8 feet , 7 feet... The figure began to giggle with excitement...

6 feet , 5 feet , 4 feet.. It's free hand opened sharply, yielding its razor sharp fingers...

3 feet , 2 feet...Danny whimpered for his mummy...

1 Feet.. The dark form snapped to life and let out a horrible cackle as Danny came hurling in to its grasp...

0 feet.. Danny screamed for his life.

2020.11.25 23:49 RationalRomace [RO] Loving you is Red

The sound of keys jostling and a door opening bring me out of my daze.

“There's a Maria here!” I hear him shout in surprise. As if I am a rare species of human he found in his kitchen.

“Sometimes I come home and there's a Maria here, and it makes me so happy!” His tone full of childish glee.

A surge of pure joy overwhelms me. I wonder if my face shows how happy I feel. I kinda hope not, I’d look like an idiot. “Welcome home.”

Suddenly everything feels right. Whatever issue I was just dwelling on no longer seems relevant. Kevin is home and that matters more.

My first instinct is to ask how his day was, but stop myself, Kevin hates that question. It’s too mundane! He would gripe I hate talking about work. But there’s no need to ask anything, he is already telling me all about something exciting. I can tell by the way his hands start to gestate wildly. He paces around the living room putting his things away, settling in. His mouth races a million words a minute. He is so animated, like watching a cartoon come to life. It’s fun to experience.

“.....and they're making a sequel!” He concludes slightly winded and looks over at me for a response.

Shit. What was he talking about?

“Oh cool.” I say anyway. Making my eyes wide so he thinks I know why it’s cool. “How do you think that’ll go?”

He continues to talk and I make sure to pay attention this time. I am not terribly interested in movies but they make him light up and I do thoroughly enjoy that.

Nothing about our interactions would point to a couple that has broken up. We spend the rest of the afternoon basking in each other, talking and giggling like childhood friends. Maybe it’s because we know we only have a few more months together that we are able to enjoy each other so profoundly. Our lease will end and that is when our break up will stop being something we talk about and turn into something we live. But for now, we pretend otherwise.

The breakup was all his doing. I was perfectly content with our life. We were settling into the next phase. A phase I had been dreaming about since I met him, since I recognized that I had found who I wanted to spend my life with. Kevin was instead restless and doubtful.

Kevin: Are you happy? The text came in at work.

His question didn’t strike me as odd, on occasion Kevin asked me this and other vague philosophical queries out of nowhere. I didn’t jump to anything being out of place.

Me: Yes I am. I answered truthfully. Are you?

I knew he wasn’t. He had been distant these past few weeks. I could tell settling into the apartment wasn’t giving him the fulfillment he expected to receive from achieving this long term goal. His next question slapped me in the face.

Kevin: Do you think we would be better as friends?

NO. No. No. My brain immediately yelled. Of course not. No.

A second message came in before I could answer.

Kevin: We already interact like friends, we’re not very romantic with each other. What would be the difference?

A LOT! I took a deep breathe. I hoped to god this was another thought experiment of his.

Me: No. We wouldn’t be better as friends. What I get out of our relationship could not be done with the intensity and frequency of a friendship. And we could be more romantic, nothing is stopping us except what we’ve let ourselves get used to.

I typed fervently. Trying not to work myself into a panic mid shift.

Me: Can we talk about this in person please? This feels important.

Kevin: No it’s okay, you get home late we can talk about this another day.

Me: No. You’re talking about a breakup Kevin. I can’t put this off. Wait up for me.

Kevin: Yea okay.

I got home at midnight but he wasn’t there.

Me: Where are you?

Kevin: Doing laundry. I’ll be right down.

It took him a half hour. He was trying to delay a scary conversation, but I wouldn’t have it. When he got in I had a bottle of wine and two glasses poured, I knew we would need some liquid courage to talk about this. We started by talking about anything else for the first hour. He didn’t want to bring it up and neither did I. I realized, after enough delay, that if I didn’t start it, it would go on ignored. So I bit the bullet.

“So you think we’d be better as friends?” I blurted. Trying to hide the pain in my tone.

“I was just asking what the difference would be. I’ve been noticing more and more how distant we are.”

I thought that’s how you liked things! My inner voice cried

“But we’ve always been this way.” I said

“I know. But I don’t think this is the relationship I want.”

But it’s the one you created! I weep.

“We can work on it. If you want more romance I want that too. I just thought that you didn’t want that so I don’t push it. But we can do something about it.”

“I don’t think we can.”

“Why not?”

“We’ve said it before that we would try to be more affectionate and nothing ever changes. We’re just going to keep saying it and nothing is going to change.”

“I never knew you wanted to break up because of it! That brings it to a whole new level of seriousness.” I am sobbing at this point. Feeling a desperateness I’ve never experienced before.

“It should just come naturally. It’s not right that we have to work for something that should just be part of a relationship.” He says adamantly,

“But if we both want it, what is wrong with having to work on it until it becomes normal? I don’t understand.”

We continued to argue but go in circles. By the end he became more adamant that there was no solution to our problem except ending it.

“I am not breaking up with you. I just want us to think about it.” I knew him enough to know that was a lie. Kevin hated making decisions. He had a tendency to give me non committal answers so I would have to make the decision. That way when it didn’t work out, he wasn’t at fault.

We went to bed that night after a 3 hour conversation. I laid there in utter panic, foolishly trying to go to sleep. After an hour of turmoil I got up went into the living room, put on my favorite movie and sobbed until Kevin woke up for his next day of work.

He looked at me from across the room saying nothing, eyes full of grief. He approached me right before leaving. I looked up at him and sniffled. He put his hand softly on my head. “ I am leaving. Can I kiss you?”

I nod “Please.”

As he walks out of the apartment, leaving me alone with my sadness I start to remember the day I fell in love with Kevin.

I stare at my phone in absolute awe. It’s quite hot. Did we really just talk for 7 hours? I was so scared to even have a phone conversation to begin with. Texting is my comfort zone. I was so sure there were going to be awkward pauses and we weren’t going to have much to say. But neither of us stopped talking or laughing the whole night. I open my phone to text him, he has work in a few hours. I have a five am shift in 20 min.

Me: Sorry I wish we could keep talking

Kevin: So do I. Have a good day at work.

I can’t stop smiling. I am trying to, I don’t want my boss to think I am drunk or something. My body feels like it’s on fire,. For someone who hasn’t slept all night I am incredibly energetic. High. I realize. I giggle all the way to work reliving our conversation. Once I am parked outside, it strikes me like a sudden jolt. Fuck. I am in love with him. I smile harder. My jaw hurts. Every cell in my body recognizes this new truth. I am in love. I didn’t expect love to feel so certain. I’ve never been in love before, but I am usually very bad at knowing how I feel. Where was the part where I hem and doubt and question myself about what should be and what can’t be and yadda yadda yadda? But no. There’s not an ounce of doubt in my body, this morning I am in love. I keep saying it in my head and it creates more fire. I am in love.

Kevin and I had quite the unconventional start to our romance, in fact we credit the rocky infrastructure as the result of its demise. All I know for certain is that when we met, we clung to each other like we were dying of thirst and our connection was a tall glass of water. We became best friends immediately, constantly baffled at how alike we were and how many common interests we shared. I admired how ridiculously entertaining he was, and he loved my intelligent and accepting personality. It only took two dates and a few phone calls to know we had found something unique, and were not letting it go.

The problem was that although Kevin and I had found something intense and special, I was not ready to do the girlfriend thing. I had just left what I described as a ‘suffocating relationship’ and Kevin had left a relationship where he had been cheated on. Both of which happened for us around the same time. It felt like fate had made those things end at exactly the time that would lead us to each other. After that relationship I was ecstatic to be on the dating scene and having a lot of fun exploring what being a single adult was like. I assumed Kevin wouldn’t be ready for something serious either, so soon. I came up with a compromise.

“What do we do?” He asked me.

My answer came off with more confidence than I had. “Have you ever heard of polyamory?”

“I am not sure.”

“We date. But we keep seeing other people too.” I simplified.

“You want to keep dating me while you date other people?”

“You can keep dating too!” I clarified. Wanting him to take this well.

“Oh..” He said and looked out the window.

“What do you think?”

“Just let me get this straight. You want to make me your bottom bitch?”

I crossed my arms “Um.. I don’t know what that is but it doesn't sound good.”

He laughed “You’ve never heard that before? You’re from Atlanta!”

“Is that supposed to imply something? Just tell me what it means.”

He explained it to me and I scoffed.

“I can’t believe you just said that.”

“I am just trying to understand.”

“Look! I like you. We both just got out of disastrous relationships. This seems like the middle ground we are looking for.”

“I didn’t know we were looking for middle ground.”

“Ever since I heard about it I wanted to try it.” I said and shrugged.

He thought for a while and I shook my leg in anticipation.

“I guess we could try it.”

I smiled. “Really?”

He nodded. Wow he really is the coolest guy ever.

“But you’re going to have to help me through it.”

“Oh of course. I’ve done a lot of research on it.”

“Yea? How?”

“I listen to tons of relationship podcasts.”

He gave me a skeptical look “Okay Maria. I’m trusting you.”

It went well at first.

Kevin: I have a date with a young lady today.

The message came a week later solidifying what we were to become. Okay, this is it. This is the part where I feel angry and upset and take back my decision. Instead I found myself smiling. Utter relief filled my system. Good. I can handle this. But, who is this girl? Does Kevin have a type? I am fascinated. I am excited.

Me: Great! I wanna know all about it

We remained in a deep state of limerence. Kevin lived in Fort Collins an hour drive from Denver. To see him I borrow my mother's car. I filled with anticipation the entire way. I try not to speed but it’s impossible knowing going faster means seeing him sooner. I play Taylor Swift's Red. No other album captures my feelings better than this one. I sing along, pull the windows down and speed up, checking to make sure no police are around as I leave the city. Will I ever be as happy as I am now, twenty years old experiencing her first love? I don’t know, but I take it in just in case.

When I get there Kevin’s broad grin greets me. I jump out of the car and into his arms. This is the moment I think about the entire ride here. The moment that I get to feel him, smell him and kiss him. We kiss until we have to stop ourselves because we’re in a parking lot in the middle of the day. I’ve only known him for a few months, but that doesn’t seem to matter in the least.

I go home very late, and the next week he comes to me. We take turns from Denver to Fort Collins, to have the funnest dates of my life. Kevin became my favorite person. I tell him things I never dared say out loud before. We get to know each other quickly and in deep intimate ways. The people I was going on dates with begin to pale in comparison to the love I was experiencing. It was all bliss.

Until...

“You’re still sleeping with your ex!?” I scream into the phone. It felt like someone punched me. My throat closed up and I couldn’t swallow.

“I wasn’t going to.” He said. “But when you said we could sleep with other people I thought why not.”

Silence.

“Why? Is that wrong?”

2020.11.25 23:46 RationalRomace Loving you is Red

2020.11.25 19:19 mckernan599gto $3000 Flight Sim First Time Build

Those are just about the only games I play and that will be the primary use of the computer.

I’m open to suggestions but ideally, I’d want a 1440p widescreen monitor (30 to 34in-ish) with a 144hz refresh rate… and curved. However, I know those are very expensive, and I don’t want it to eat up my budget. I currently use this monitor:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071JJ8V4S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I want the latest offering from Nvidia/AMD when it comes to CPU/GPU, but I'm open to suggestions.

Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
-At least 2TB of storage if not more.
-SSD.
-At least 32GB of RAM, 64GB ideally.

  1. I want the latest and greatest for the budget.
  2. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t want the monitor to suck too much out of my budget if it begins to significantly affect the PC hardware budget (think CPU, GPU). I have a monitor already, so I can wait and buy a nicer one a bit later if I need to.
  3. I have never built a PC before.
  4. I want it to be easily upgradable. Thinking “hey I’ve got some extra cash to splurge on a 3090 to replace the 3080 now”. I want to be able to easily swap out the old with the new. If that’s something that can easily be planned for?
  5. I am in NO RUSH.

Buying in US, specifically Colorado. I also have a Microcenter near me. I've put together a build on their website and am looking to get feedback on how it's put together.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I have an ASUS MX279 Monitor. Plan is to replace it at some point in the near future once the build is complete to a 4k monitor.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
I'm open to overclocking but since this is my first build since I was a kid I don't know if I necessarily have the aptitude for it.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Nothing specific that I can think of
What type of network connectivity do you need? (Wired and/or WiFi) If WiFi is needed and you would like to find the fastest match for your wireless router, please list any specifics.
WiFi
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
No case preferences, I just want to make sure I have good airflow to avoid overheating.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Need a copy of Windows 10. No need to build it specifically into the budget.
Looking to make my first build since I was a kid. One of my favorite memories with my Dad was when I was a kid he bought me a bunch of components for my first PC for Christmas and we built it together. Have been gaming on Xbox for years and finally decided it was time for an upgrade. With Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals going on it seemed like a good time to do that. I live near the Denver Microcenter and want to take advantage. I've included the link for the initial build I've put together on their site. It might be trash but I wanted to get some feedback. Also thanks to you for all the help, this is such an awesome community and I really appreciate all the work you put in to helping strangers build PCs. :)
